Sildenafil (Viagra): Action and Use
Sildenafil, commonly known by the brand name Viagra, is a medication primarily used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in men. It belongs to a group of medicines called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors.
How It Works
Sildenafil works by increasing blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation. It relaxes the blood vessels by enhancing the effect of nitric oxide, a natural chemical produced by the body. This process helps achieve and maintain an erection sufficient for sexual activity.

Administration
Sildenafil is usually taken 30–60 minutes before sexual activity. Its effects can last for up to 4 hours. It should not be taken more than once per day. High-fat meals may delay its onset of action.
Precautions
Sildenafil should not be used with nitrate medications, as this can cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure. It is recommended to consult a healthcare professional before use, especially for individuals with heart conditions or other chronic illnesses.
